
“I’m so happy,” the star told Winfrey before adding that the song was “a crazy half-court shot”.
“It’s not because you’re that good,” Williams said of the song. “It’s because you’re out of ideas. And that’s what happened. I hit zero. And I just hit a place of openness because I had nothing else left.”
Williams, who has been behind some of the biggest hits of the past decade, told Winfrey that his best songs came two ways.
“Either when I have a really good gut feeling about something, it’s written in the shower or on a plane.”
“Shower’s good, isn’t it?” said Winfrey. “There’s something about the water.”
“The water attracts your ear,” he said. “You get distracted, and your mind wanders.”
Things didn’t go quite so smoothly for the star at the Coachella music festival over the weekend.
“I wanted this s*** to be so much hotter,” he moaned, “but the dust and this f***ing wind …”
